11/11/2010 - Cebu City -- Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III inaugurated the new Radisson Blu Hotel during his visit in Cebu City on November 10.

The President arrived at the hotel at 11:30 am and welcomed by Hans Sy and Hotel Manager, Grant Gaskin.

He led the ribbon cutting with the Sy Family and some executives of the Carlson Hotels Asia-Pacific led by Xerxres Meher-Homji and Lyle Lewis assisting the President.

During the President's speech, he paid tribute to the Sy Family for their steadfast commitment to providing quality, yet affordable products and services to the people.

"I always enjoy visiting Cebu ? it's a place that brings together essential elements that make Philippine tourism so special", Aquino said.

He added, that during his visits to the United States and Vietnam, the rest of the world responded positively to the good news that the Philippines is indeed open for business.

As the economy enjoys an upturn it has not experienced in almost a decade, so does the confidence of the Filipino people in the government.

The President emphasized that his administration is "committed to restore the faith of the countrymen in the government to make the present the great turning point in the life of our nation."

Aquino strongly said that this will be the time where honesty and hard work will be rewarded, and where cutting corners and defying the rules will gain nothing but hard time.

"As the well-known warmth and genuine hospitality continue to be demonstrated to foreign as well as domestic tourists he encouraged everyone to keep on working hand in hand to develop the potentials of the motherland," he concluded.

The Radisson Blu Hotel is the first hotel in Asia-Pacific region that aims for an upscale market with its 400 room accommodation, two spacious and contemporary ballrooms and ten (10) state-of-the-art meeting rooms and facilities.

SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) invested P2.5billion for the rehabilitation of the hotel structures with the Carlson Hotels and SM Hotels and Convention Corporation as its partners.(Philippine Information Agency)
