Cebu City to offer free services

10/11/2010 - NO MORE fees will be charged for late registration application, correction of entries for birth certificates and notary services transactions from the Cebu City Civil Registrar's Office.

The pilot program is set every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the barangays, according to resolutions passed Friday by the City Council.

The program of the Cebu City Women and Family Affairs Commission will give free legal, medical and Office of Cebu CIty Registrar (OCCR) assistance to the less fortunate in the barangays, said City Councilor Leah Japson, chairman of the committee on family and women.

The program, launched last March, started its operation in July after a final schedule plotting, Japson said.

The city government will deploy civil registrar employees to the barangays on Saturdays to hasten filing of late birth registrations and entry corrections in birth certificates (name, spelling, gender, date of birth, etc.) for free.

Lawyers from the City Legal Office will work with the civil registrar to provide free notary services for documents.

Residents of mountain barangays of the north and south districts will be prioritized. Barangay captains will be informed of their barangay schedules.

The program is only available in barangays. Transactions made in the Office of the Civil Registrar will collect the same amount for the mentioned transactions.

The following barangays can of avail of the program: Buot-Taup (Oct. 16), Bonbon (Oct. 23), Pung-ol Sibugay (Nov. 6), Babag (Nov. 13), Agsungot (Nov. 27), Binaliw (Dec. 4), Pulangbato (Dec. 11), Budlaan (Dec. 18). (Inquirer)
