More than 2700 families benefit from 4Ps in Cebu City

09/20/2010 - Cebu City - Two thousand seven hundred twenty-seven (2,727) households in ten (10) barangays in Cebu City are beneficiaries of the "Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program" or (4Ps).

Secretary Dinky Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD) announced this at the community assembly during the Presidential Visit in Cebu recently.

Soliman said, an estimated budget of 2.3M until December 2011 is given to the beneficiaries of the 4Ps program under the new administration.

The 4Ps is a poverty reduction and social development program that provides conditional cash grants to extremely poor household to improve their health, nutrition and education, particularly of children aged 0-14, she added.

The program provides cash grant packages to the beneficiaries such as: 1) health and nutrition cash grant package of P500/month per household or P6000 a year; 2) educational cash grant package of P300/month for 10 months per child totaling to Php3,000 per year.

Soliman further said, a household with three qualified children shall have a subsidy of P1,400 per month or P15,000 annually. Cash grants are released every three months through a Landbank cash card or over-the-counter payment.

Fe Revilleza, 31 and a mother of three (3) in her sharing during the assembly said, she was extremely happy that her family is a beneficiary of the 4Ps because she can now send her children to school and that she has learned to go to the health center and helped other mothers in the community activities relative to poverty alleviation.

Editha Uy, 4, has eight (8) children and 3 of them are 4Ps program beneficiaries. Uy said she hopes and prays that the President will continue the program because it has really given them and the other poor families the "breathing" spell in their financial difficulties.

Both women are thankful of the program because it helps them send their children to school and has developed their character to be socially aware on family and sense of community (PIA News)
