06/13/10 - Cebu City, Philippines - Twenty people were killed on Sunday when a bus transporting tourists plunged down into a ravine. According to officials the bus was transporting mainly Iranian nationals.
The bus carrying 50 passengers many of which nursing and medical students from Cebu Doctor's University was en route to the town of Balamban in Cebu province in the central Philippines when the accident occurred.
So far 20 bodies have been recovered and 30 injured people were rushed to area hospitals in Balamban with many of the seriously injured being airlifted to Cebu City.
Early reports say the bus was traveling at a high rate of speed while negotiating a downhill curve on the road when it lost its brakes causing it to plummet nearly 100 feet into a ravine.
The passengers were on their way to a beach town when the accident happened. (AHN)
