05/24/2010 - CEBU CITY (PNA) — Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Jesus Verzosa on is downplaying charges that the recently held elections here was ridden with fraud.
Instead of taking the allegations “hook, line and sinker,” Verzosa said, “people need to see evidence that supports such claims.”
Verzosa visited Cebu Sunday for the awarding ceremony of the private stakeholders and police personnel who helped make the elections in Central Visayas peaceful and credible.
The PNP official’s statement came following charges of fraud made last week in the House of Representatives’ Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.
At the PNP ceremony held at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 headquarters at Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. in Cebu City, Verzosa reminded the public to consider the credibility of those raising doubts about the election results.
”First, reflect on the person raising such doubt. Analyze first what his motives could be, or what his standing was after the elections. Most of those that now bring out such doubts are those who lost,” Verzosa said.
He also said he intended to personally thank stakeholders for their support of the police during the election period.
Before the May 10 polls, Versoza said there was skepticism about the reliability of the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines, power supply, the readiness and loyalty of security personnel and the frontline workers’ commitment to be “morally and spiritually” ready to conduct honest, orderly and peaceful election.
”Let us be proud of what we have done before, during and after the election,” he said.
Overall, the Visayas, particularly Central and Western Visayas, were among the most peaceful regions in the country during the May 10 elections, he said. (Manila Bulletin)

Cebu City is located on the central eastern part of Cebu Province, an island at the center of the Visayas in Southern Philippines.
