Mist spraying drive in city schools on

05/29/10 - CEBU City health officials will start on Tuesday this year's mist spraying campaign in public schools in Cebu City to drive away dengue causing mosquitoes.

Cebu City Health Epidemiologist Durinda Macasucol said they would first target public schools in 20 barangays, where most dengue cases were reported this year.

These barangays are Gudalupe, Labangon, Mambaling, Basak San Nicolas, Mabolo, Apas, Tisa, Lorega, Sambag 1, Bulacao, Talamban, Tejero, Basak Pardo, Lahug, Capitol Site, Kalunasan, Pardo, Bacayan, Duljo and Punta Princesa.

Macasucol also appreciated the City Council's resolution asking the health department to conduct anti-dengue mist spraying in public schools as a preventive measure against the expected rise in dengue cases especially during the rainy season.

“We appreciate the effort of the council to mitigate the spread of dengue but we have already been misting the schools before the classes start as part of our regular sanitary inspection,” Macasucol told .

However, Macasucol said that they have been conducting mist spraying in schools for eight years already.

Aside from the mist spraying in schools, Sanitation Officer Edgar Alfanta will also check on the safety of the water fixtures in the schools. (Inquirer)
