Gloria in town for new bridge, Argao burial

1/24/10 - PRESIDENT Gloria Arroyo is visiting Cebu today to inaugurate the Cansaga Bay Bridge of the Cebu North Coastal Road Project in Barangay Pakna-an, Mandaue City and to attend the burial of the late Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

A statement from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) said Arroyo will arrive in Mactan at 9:45 a.m. and will proceed to Pakna-an, where the inauguration will start at 10 a.m.
In 30 minutes, organizers plan to cram the inaugural drive-through, welcome remarks from Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, a message from Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz and a project briefing by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Victor Domingo.

Domingo, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu last Thursday, said the north coastal road project, which costs P2.4 billion, is one of the biggest projects Arroyo will leave Cebuanos.
It is supposed to decongest traffic in the Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan corridor.

The President’s party will then proceed to Argao town in the south, 67 kilometers from Cebu City, to attend the requiem mass and necrological service for Remonde at St. Michael Parish Church.

Remonde, who served the Arroyo administration from 2001 until his death last Jan. 19 due to cardiac arrest, had facilitated the release of P40 million for the construction of the town’s sports center and public market, implemented by Mayor Edsel Galeos.

It was in the sports center where the final night of Remonde’s wake was held
