‘Manny Pacquiao’ to run for Cebu City vice mayor

CEBU CITY – It’s final. Manny Pacquiao, who has filed his certificate of candidacy (C0C) here last Sunday, will be running for Cebu City Vice Mayor in next year’s elections.
But wait – he’s not Manny Pacquiao, the people’s champ. He is Atty. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, a namesake of the Filipino boxing icon, who will be the running mate of Georgia Osmeña, the younger sister of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
He claims he is distantly related to the world-famous Filipino boxer and admitted that his name gives him an edge over the other candidates and will propel him to the vice mayoralty position.
Pacquiao, 61, a Cebuano bar topnotcher who has been a law professor in the University of the Visayas for the past 32 years, is no stranger to City Hall. He had served as Office-in-Charge (OIC) councilor during the term of OIC councilor Sonny Osmeña.
At the City Council, Pacquiao served as Chairman of the Committee on Laws and Revision of Laws. Prior to joining the city council, he was Assistant City Attorney and acting City Attorney during the time of Mayor Eulogio Borres Sr.
He was also special Assistant to then Governor and now Congressman Eduardo Gullas. Aside from teaching law, Pacquiao also holds several consultancies with a number of big corporations.
Georgia Osmena, current Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena’s younger sister, who heads the Go Cebu movement, has finally filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) on Sunday together with two of her candidates for councilor.
Pacquiao had earlier filed his CoC together with some members of Go Cebu who will seek seats in the City Council.
