11/21/2010 - CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama said he would call boxing champion Manny Pacuqiao to invite him to Cebu for the Sinulog Festival in January.
He tasked Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem, traffic operations czar, to head the committee handling the VIP invitation.
Jakosalem successfully persuaded Pacquiao two years ago to come to Cebu City for the Sinulog.
“It's a good proposal. He can witness how Cebuanos honor Señor Sto. Niño,” said Jakosalem, former city councilor.
“We will be lining up many activities for Manny. I hope he won't be too busy in January, knowing that he's a congressman now.” Jaksoalem said he would like the People's Champ to witness the Sinulog parade, the fluvial procession, and the Ms Cebu pageant.
If Pacquiao can't make it in January, the city can invite him to the Charter Day in February, said Councilor Alvin Dizon. Dizon sponsored a resolution urging the Cebu City Sports Commission to bring boxing clinics to urban poor areas and provide free gloves to youngsters (Cebu Daily News)
