10/08/2010 - Drainage, traffic, health, peace and order, street lighting and road improvements are what Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama focused on as he marks his 100 days of office today.
Rama yesterday said some projects were partially accomplished while others, like “Asphalt Storm”, had yet to start because of financial constraints.
For road asphalting projects, only 4.4 km were repaired, 11.2 km were backfilled, and 2.2 km were asphalted of various roads in the city.
Rama said that the P31.5 million budget for projects from Supplemental Budget 4 helped but was not enough to fund the road projects for Cebu City’s 80 barangays.
He said “Asphalt Storm” would actually start once Supplemental Budget No. 5, which includes P100 million for asphalting, is approved by the City Council.
He also partly fulfilled his promise to install more street lamps in the city including sport complexes and 40 basketball courts.
The city government cleaned manholes in Legaspi, Sanciangco, and Lincoln streets and deepened canals and mini creeks of barangays Tejero, Lahug and Manalili.
In his first 100 days of office, Rama said residents from mountain barangays were given easy access to hospitals when the city government provided vehicles to ferry patients to the Cebu City Medical Center.
The city also repainted the CCMC's interior and transferred the pediatrics ward to a better site.
During the dengue outbreak, the city appropriated P6 million for laboratories and other anti-dengue programs and conducted search-and-destroy operations for dengue-carrying mosqitoes.
Mayor Rama appointed a new Cebu City police chief, Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe and ordered a more aggressive fight against crime..
The city government finalized a plan to set up five more police precincts at no cost to the city in Parian, Fuente Osmeña, Pardo, Mambaling and Carbon areas.
To address traffic congestion, the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) cleared sidewalks along Colon Street and Osmeña Boulevard and implemented one-side vending in uptown and downtown areas to ease pedestrian traffic.
In the third quarter of the year, CITOM collected over P14.7 million, the highest in CITOM history.
Rama said he was proud that in his first 100 days no government official was terminated but he said they would be under close observation for 100 days.
He shuffled some department heads. In the City Health Department, Dr. Stella Ygoña took the place of Dr. Fe Cabugao, who is now her assistant. (Inquirer)
