PUJ beats red light, hits 3 motorcycles in city crossing

06/04/10 - FOUR persons were injured when a jeepney hit three motorcycles after it tried to beat a red light in an intersection in barangay Day-as, Cebu City on Wednesday night.

Injured were Cirilo Lacaolacao and his son Cyril, Bernard Arac, and Joseph Dereal.

The three were driving separate motorcycles.

Traffic investigators said jeepney driver Arnilo Villanueva admitted that he drove on even through the traffic light was already yellow when he struck the motorcycles crossing Sikatuna Street.

The jeepney rammed a a concrete lamppost after hitting the motorcycles.

Barangay tanods arrested Villanueva and turned him over to the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom).

The wounded persons were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Villanueva is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.

SPO1 Porferio Lim Jr., traffic investigator of the Cebu City police, said beating traffic light is one of the top causes of road accidents.

Police said motorists should observe traffic rules to prevent road accidents. (Inquirer)
