05/26/10 - CEBU CITY – The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has reactivated its “Oplan Balik Eskuwela” to ensure safe and orderly conduct of class opening on June 15, CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador said.
Part of CCPO’s security plan is the deployment of at least two uniformed policemen in all private and public schools around the city on June 15 and the enforcement of a city ordinance that bans the selling and drinking of liquor near school premises.
The City police chief also stressed that policemen will keep an eye on gangs that will be actively recruiting students at the start of classes. Policemen will regularly check places where groups of students usually converge, Comendador said.
The Cebu police official also urged school administrators to hire their own security personnel who will be assigned to monitor students inside the school as the police focuses on activities outside school premises.
“I also urge students, especially those who come from the province, to be extra careful with their money and belongings while on public jeepneys as criminals will surely exploit the day to try and victimize them,” Comendador told reporters. (Manila Bulletin)
