05/21/2010 - Awitness has identified one of those arrested by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) operatives for possession of unlicensed guns on Wednesday as one of the five men who robbed the Lhuillier chicken farm in Carmen town of payroll money last week.
A witness said Rolando Gonzales, 28, was allegedly with gang leader Joshua Paring and three others who took P300,000 in payroll money from Lhuillier chicken dressing plant in barangay Catipay on Friday last week.
Gonzales earlier denied involvement in the robbery.
He was arrested based on a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Soliver Peras for alleged possession of unlicensed firearms. A .45 caliber pistol was seized inside Gonzales’ house.
He claimed to be the messenger of Rep. Red Durano of 5th district.
But Yamie Vestal, the congressman’s spokesperson, said Gonzales and Paring were election volunteers of Durano, who is currently out of the country with his family.
“Gonzales, Paring and other volunteers do messengerial jobs on schedules of sorties and schedules of political meetings,” said Vestal. However, she said that “we had no way of verifying their personal lives”.
“We have several volunteers who offered their services to be our messengers/liaisons/encoders assigned in every town. What they do outside of our office is out of our engagement,” said Vestal.
Supt. Ritchie Posadas, CIDG-7 deputy chief, said they are finalizing the statements of the witnesses of the robbery incident in identifying Gonzales.
Paring, who was killed in a shootout with police, was identified as the leader of the robbery gang. He is the head guard of the Lhuillier chicken farm in barangay Cantipay.
Junidie Sanico who claimed to be a member of Citizen Auxiliary Force Geographical Unit, could be charged for illegal possession of firearms. Witnesses refused to identity him as one of the robbers.
A magazine with live ammunition was found inside Sanico’s house.
Posadas said they also released Paring’s companions Melvin Censio and Jesus Morales due to absence of evidence and witnesses. They were with Paring inside the hut when police served the search warrant against them.
Posadas said they are still in the process of identifying the three others who participated in the payroll robbery who might be disgruntled employees of the company. He did not say if the heist was an inside job.
But he said this is a possibility because of the positive identification of Paring and Gonzales. Posadas said they would also coordinate with the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) to help them solve the robbery case.
Almost P15,000 believed to be part of the loot were recovered from the house of Paring. The bundles of money and their initials were identified by employees as belonging to the company (Cebu Daily News)
